Course structure

Classes are obligatory, every day, from Monday to Friday, from 13:00 to 21:00. In total, 32 hours are taught classes, of which 23 are courses on acting and improvisation. All three years are underpinned by the study of theatre history, criticism, performance theory, and business, delivered through lectures, seminars, class-based exercises, presentations, and research projects.

In the first year, students develop core skills and are taught improvisation skills, basic acting elements and how to control their voice and body.

In the second year, the courses aim on the studying, applying modern approaches and practices on texts both of the classical repertory and of the ancient Greek drama.

Last, in the third year, the students learn how to analyze a role and understand the theatre characters. Also, they participate in the staging procedure of a theatre performance (props, lighting, music, costumes).
 

Main courses

Acting

The students are taught the basic principles of acting; observation, different and various dialects and accentuations, improvisation.

Improvisation

Improvising both on texts and conditions. Exploring the technical aspects on how to build a role. Analysis and studying of the body language. The importance of the body in acting.

Voice

The students learn how to place and use their voice, as well as how to lower or heighten their voice and breath. At the same time, they are taught how to utter properly both consonants and vowels.

Movement – Dance

The students are taught various movement and contemporary dance techniques, also focusing on the body’s good health and expression.
 

Secondary courses

Music

The students are taught both theoretical courses (History of Music) and practical ones (singing ).

Dramaturgy

The students are asked to read and discuss in class different and various plays from ancient Greek drama to Elizabethan plays and commedia dell arte, as well as contemporary plays. They are taught how to understand what a plays speaks about, analysing not only what is happening in the plot, but also in relation to the characters, stage direction etc.

History of Theatre

The History of theatre, since its birth, along with theatre currents, throughout the centuries are taught, starting from the ancient Greek drama until the 21st century.

History of Literature

Texts and poems since the first World War are examined and analysed, teaching the students how to read using a proper tone and volume.

Scenography – Costume Design

The students are taught the history of scenography and costume since the ancient times. At the same time, they are asked to build a scale model scenery, as well as theatre costumes, exercising themselves practically.

Film

In the second and third year of their studies, the students learn how to act in from of the camera for the television and cinema. They are also taught the History of Cinema.
